Crowns and Bridges
Dentist in Lexington

Crowns are caps that cover, strengthen, and protect teeth that have had large fillings, cracks, or root canals. A bridge is a treatment to fill a space left from a missing tooth by placing crowns on the teeth on both sides of the gap which secure a “bridge” or “pontic” tooth in between. A dental bridge restores balance and function that was lost with a missing tooth.
There are many different dental materials used for making crowns and bridges, but we prefer ceramic dental materials such as porcelain. The color and shading can be made to completely match the neighboring teeth and are often indistinguishable from natural teeth in the mouth. Unlike crowns and bridges placed in the past, a band of metal will not be noticeable around the margin of your tooth.
Crowns and bridges are long-term treatments that will provide health, stability, and esthetics for years (often decades) to come. No special maintenance is needed, but to enhance the longevity of your crowns and bridges, good oral hygiene is required. Your regular check-ups will give us a chance to reevaluate your teeth to determine if they will require crowns or if the crowns are in good condition.
Dr. Kress says
Your family and friends need not notice that you have a crown or bridge. Our esthetic crowns have an all-natural appearance that cannot be differentiated from actual teeth.
